Gravy Redemption11:55 PM CST (Link)
Everyone has their favorite food at Thanksgiving. For some, it's the stuffing. For others, it's the pies. Me? It's all gravy.

Growing up, we usually went to our grandmother's house for the Thanksgiving meal. One of my aunts, mom, or my grandmother made the gravy from the turkey drippings. You can't beat that Southern-made gravy, with little bits of turkey from the bottom of the roasting pan thrown in for good measure. Poured over the mashed potatoes and dressing or mopped up with a brown and serve roll, it was a little taste of heaven. Take away the turkey, the pies, the dressing and everything else. Just leave me the gravy and something to sop it with.

To save time last year, Mel's sister served precooked turkey and canned gravy. Thanksgiving just wasn't the same. Either she got tired of my whining or she loved me enough to accommodate my wishes, because this year she made fresh, homemade gravy. And I'm very thankful.
