HEB Unclear on the Concept02:34 PM CST (Link)
I was shopping at HEB this morning. On my list were the ingredients for Mel's birthday cake--chocolate cake with creamy white frosting. It's traditional and it's the hardest darned thing to frost, unless you like chocolate cake bits in your white frosting. Good thing Mel doesn't seem to mind.
When I got to the baking aisle, I picked out a chocolate cake mix and then picked up a can of Duncan Hines Cream Cheese frosting. I noticed a cheaper HEB-brand of Cream Cheese frosting next to it. Normally, I don't mind HEB's house brands. They are usually pretty good for the money. But as I scanned the ingredients lists for each can of frosting, I noticed something. The Duncan Hines version included cream and cream cheese. The HEB brand listed no cream cheese at all. It was just a basic sugar frosting with no dairy whatsoever.
Truth in labeling? Not in this case.
