11/21/2004: "It is finished!"
I did it! I did it! I did it! I did it! I did it! I did it! I did it! I did it! I did it! I did it! I did it! I did it! I did it! At 1:35 p.m. today, after 21 days of periodically furious typing, I finished a 50,000-word, cohesive piece of fiction complete with a clear beginning, middle, and ending. I have written a novel. Thanks to Mel for suffering with me and providing encouragement, and NaNoWriMo, Bird by Bird, and No Plot! No Problem! for providing excellent advice, motivation, and the deadline I needed to make it possible. No thanks to the dog and the cats for wanting to be fed and let out at regular intervals. Thanks to my shower for providing soothing warmth to cramped writing muscles and meditative relief for writer's block. FAQs 1. Will you ever submit it for publication? I seriously doubt it. It's trite and silly and uses every space opera science fiction cliche and stereotype you can think of, but I loved writing it, just because I could use all those things and get away with it. 2. Can you read it? No. Next question. 3. Please? Well... no. 4. Will you write another that I can read? Maybe. Let me rest my aching arms, fingers, and eyeballs for a couple of days and see how I feel. I did it! I did it! I did it! I did it! I did it! I did it! I did it! I did it! I did it! I did it! I did it! I did it! I did it! Did I mention that I did it?
