08/26/2002: "Why??"

queer film festivals and non-queer films

straight people on queer mag covers

These aren't the most egregious examples. I've seen worse. But I'm tired of seeing "gay icons" instead of gays on covers and in movies. Let's get real.

Oh, and while we're at it, the angst-ridden coming out movies need to go. We need more movies that deal with homosexuality not as the subject, but as a matter of fact. Such as a sf flick where the main characters just happen to be lesbians. Or a murder mystery where the chief investigator is queer. It's a nice fact, but it doesn't have to have a major impact on the plot line. Or a music biopic where the star is this folksinger chick who pisses off her lesbian fanbase by telling them not to act queer during her performances. Oh wait. That's not fiction. That's fact.
