If I had a hammer…
But I don’t. Now. Mel just broke my hammer. It is (was) a good, Stanley-brand hammer with a hickory handle. I’ve owned and guarded this hammer for probably 15-20 years. She doesn’t know her own strength, especially with doors. A couple of weekends ago, Mel managed to break one of our garage doors. She managed to get it closed OK, but now we can’t open it for fear of it falling apart. One time she broke the door off El Mercado Restaurant on S. 1st Street. Yes, she did. I’m not kidding. She tried to open the door and the whole thing came away in her hand. She also broke a brand new crowbar once, but that’s another story. Let’s just say the lady at the returns counter at Builder’s Square was REALLY impressed.
Mel said she’ll buy me any hammer I want. Do I want another Stanley with a hickory handle or one of those newfangled jobbies with the fiberglass handles? Decisions, decisions. Whichever one I choose, I’ll probably have Mel try it out first, so that I know it’s sturdy.

I’m sure your hammer was defective.

An Eastwing, a great hammer and Mel can’t break it

I second the Estwing (not Eastwing). Steel through and through with a nice rubber grip. Hammer of the pros but not "experts only". Some slime stole mine back in the day and I have never recovered.
16 Oz. is good.
