My Governor is Not Kinky
Monday, March 6th, 2006Over the last couple of months, I have half-entertained the thought of signing Kinky Friedman’s petition to be an independent candidate for governor, figuring it wouldn’t hurt to have him stir things up a bit. The Republicans are smug and flaunt their good-hair governor. The Democrats are weak and don’t have any electable candidates to speak of. They tucked tail when Ann Richards lost to Dubya in the fall of 1994 and haven’t made much noise since.
However, I just read (via the Burnt Orange Report) an interview with Kinky Friedman (reg required) that was published in the Dallas Morning News on Feb. 17, 2006. In the article, Kinky lists various people and issues he supported and voted for. (Or didn’t vote for, mostly.) He mentioned that he voted for George W. Bush in 2004.
Well, I’m not half-entertaining anything of the sort now. Kinky just lost my signature on his petition AND my vote if he actually makes it all the way to the ballot. Anyone who voted for Dubya does NOT get my vote. Ever.
